Tendence Taps into Fall Trends

FRANKFURT, Germany-The Tendence fair, which took place here late last month, featured several trends for the coming fall and winter seasons. According to show owner and organizer Messe Frankfurt, they include:
Eye-catchers for the home
Property prices are on the way up, space is becoming a rare commodity. The furnishings sector has responded with mobile and flexible items that create the effect of artworks in the room. One example is the renaissance of the folding screen. Anything that can be moved without difficulty and decorated in different ways is currently enjoying popularity.
Vintage, retro and opulence
Patina and signs of use continue to find a place, complemented by opulent wall decoration. Animal figures and candle holders are at the top of the popularity scale. The trend is for mirrored surfaces, not only on the walls, but as complete sheathing for furniture.
Way at the top of the popularity scale in terms of materials is solid wood. Surfaces with natural grain decorate neutral backgrounds such as, for instance, wood roots become decorative bowls, authentic chopping boards turn jobs in the kitchen into a feast for the eyes, tree trunks become seats and blocks of wood in traditional house shapes accommodate musical boxes.
Home textiles: geometric patterns meet the forest
Checks and stripes continue to set the tone in textiles and tableware. They appear vibrant and full of contrasts. Oriental sumptuousness wins out when it comes to surfaces - mostly with restrained tone on tone effects. As for textiles and decoration, stags, foxes and owls are the popular motifs for throws and cushions and, as figures, they decorate window sills and sideboards.
Colors in 2014: everything goes green
Blue and petrol remain the dominant contrast to natural shades. Dark red, purple and antique pink offer themselves as alternatives. White and grey come into their own as base colors. In 2014--for the coming spring and summer seasons--green in all shades and tones will be the color that holds the key: from apple green and pine, to bottle green and mint, pistachio and lime. The various shades of green are combined with a powerful orange as well as with a neutral white.
