Ralph Lauren to Pull Bed and Bath Business in House

NEW YORK—Ralph Lauren Home, the home-textiles division of Polo Ralph Lauren Corp., will assume all of the operations of the Lauren by Ralph Lauren Home brand’s decorative bedding and bath business effective May 1, 2011.

The move, which had been rumored for some time, places the manufacturing, sourcing and development of decorative bedding and bath products into the Polo Ralph Lauren supply-chain and global-manufacturing process, according to a joint statement from Polo
Ralph Lauren and WestPoint Home, which has held the license for this line for 29 years. WestPoint will remain the brand’s licensee for
basic-bedding products, including utility bedding and blankets, beyond next May 1.

Frank Guzzetta, president of Ralph Lauren Home, said, “This move allows us to leverage Polo Ralph Lauren’s worldwide sourcing capabilities to offer the highest quality and value in a very large-scale bedding program. This shift will ignite growth and further our position as a leading designer brand in department stores.”

John Piazza, WestPoint’s president and chief executive officer, noted that Ralph Lauren was the first designer to have a bedding and bath collection. “We have enjoyed this record-setting 29-year association, and we hope that our relationship will continue to prosper and mature,” Piazza said.
