WHITE PLAINS, N.Y.–Innovative and emerging designers will be spotlighted through two special programs at NY Now (formerly NYIGF) later this month.
The Emerging Designer Maker Platform in the NY Now Handmade Collection will provide the opportunity for three young design companies to participate in their first wholesale market; and two design collectives – Join Design Seattle and The American Design Club – will showcase more than 30 independent designers within Accent on Design.
“These are incubator opportunities, offering young talent a unique level of access to the home and lifestyle markets,” said Christian Falkenberg, NY Now director and senior vice president at GLM, which owns and operates the show. “These emerging designers bring a range of new ideas and inspirations to their products.”
The Emerging Designer Maker Platform introduces the work of emerging craft designers and makers, selected on the basis of design concept, creativity and originality. Participants include Specialty Dry Goods of Santa Monica, Calif., with a lifestyle accessory line of handbags and home accessories; Reason To Be Pretty of N.Y., with a fabric jewelry line; and Vaalbara Designs, also of Santa Monica, with a collection of handbags and accessories inspired by the bohemian surf and beach culture.
Join Design Seattle, a group of independent, Seattle-based designers who cooperatively participate in wholesale markets, will bring ten designers to Accent on Design this summer, while AmDC, a professional community of American designers whose goal is to heighten awareness for emerging designers and provide exhibition opportunities, will showcase 23 members.
