DALLAS-The union territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli in India has bestowed an award on Alok International for corporate social responsibility.
The textiles manufacturer was cited for its work in the field of development of infrastructure and the improvement of living conditions of the people who live in the union territory. Alok has spinning and weaving operations in Silvassa, the territory’s capital. The company’s efforts include sustainability programs such as interventions in the prevention of environmental degradation, the promotion of energy conservation and an emphasis on community development, according to an Alok statement.
The company has also started a school in Silvassa, in partnership with the local Central Board of Secondary Education. It also employs tribal women on its weaving looms and garment/made-up stitching machines after “intensive training and orientation,” Alok said. It also has a private/public partnership with the administration of Silvassa for converting the government-owned Industrial Training Institute into a center of excellence.
