FRANKFURT, Germany–While the number of exhibitors rose 2.4 percent to 2,634 compared to last year, the number of attendees at Heimtextil 2012 was down about 5 percent to an estimated 70,000, according to figures provided by Messe Frankfurt, the show’s owner and producer.
In a Messe Frankfurt statement, Detlef Braun, member of Messe Frankfurt’s executive board, said the drop in attendance stemmed from declines in numbers from European nations that have been hit particularly hard by the debt crisis—especially Italy, Spain, Greece, France and The Netherlands. Visitor numbers did rise from Russia, the Middle East, Turkey and the Far East. The United States ranked among the nations sending the largest number of attendees outside of Germany.
Braun added that exhibitors were “delighted with the number of decision makers, the quality of the contacts, the orders placed and the number of new business contacts” at the show. He said 92 percent of attendees polled by Messe Frankfurt said they were either satisfied or very satisfied with the range of products and course of business.
