Rug Intros Offer Softness, Texture, Color

HIGH POINT, N.C.-Surface interest—from chunky looks to sheared piles—abounded in the introductions from rug exhibitors at High Point Market. Companies also brought more color, and softness was a continued focus.

Texture was key for many manufacturers. Surya’s introductions, such as the flatwoven Renata group and many of its pillow designs, incorporated surface interest. “Fabric manipulation is really big right now,” said Kathleen Bowley, spokesperson. Surya also debuted its Made to Order section, highlighting the customization abilities of such categories as rugs.
The outdoor living category grew for many manufacturers. Momeni added the Veranda line of indoor/outdoor Bohemian-themed rugs with designs inspired by henna tattoos, African motifs and other elements.
Capel’s introductions included Finesse, an indoor/outdoor line that included such fun designs as Dragonfly. The existing Moroccan Tangiers line added bright colorways to its assortment. The color palette for Capel’s custom Chenille Creations line was revamped, and includes 21 updated colors. In addition, its licensed Hableland line, which originally debuted in wool, is now made of a soft, easy-care polyester.
Nourison’s Odyssey design
Nuloom debuted a new photo printed line of tile designs, which include tiles from Portugal, Spain and Cuba. Made of nylon in Turkey, a 5-by-8 will retail for $199. They also come with a non-skid backing.
Building upon its January introduction of the handknotted Twilight collection, Nourison expanded with an “out of this world” look, called Odyssey, a woven representation of the surface of the moon. Twilight also added traditional designs with saturated colors to contrast with the original soft tonal group.
Kaleen built upon its Restoration line, a sheared handknotted look, with the new Relic group, which also has a low pile but has more transitional designs.
