Mattress Firm Ups Three Execs
Top to bottom: Ken Murphy, Kindel Elam and Sam Woods
HOUSTON-Mattress Firm executives Ken Murphy, Sam Woods and Kindel Elam have been promoted to new roles at the specialty mattress retailer.
Murphy, who had been executive vice president of sales and operations, has been appointed to the previously vacant position of chief operating officer. Murphy now oversees sales and operations, marketing, merchandising, information technology, business development and supply chain. He has been with Mattress Firm for more than 15 years, serving in a variety of sales and field-management positions.
Sam Woods has been named to succeed Murphy in the post of senior vice president of sales and operations. Woods, who joined Mattress Firm almost 17 years ago as a franchisee, sold his franchise to the company in 2000. Since then, he has held a variety of sales, management and operations posts.
Elam, vice president and general counsel, has been promoted to executive vice president and general counsel. She has been with Mattress Firm since 2012, prior to which she was a senior associate at Fulbright & Jaworski here, representing clients in mergers and acquisitions, securities and finance transactions, and garnering international experience in various commercial and finance matters.
"Ken, Sam and Kindel are committed and capable leaders that have made a lasting positive impact on the company," said Steve Stagner, Mattress Firm's president and CEO. "I am confident they will continue to strengthen our operations and grow the organization to the first national specialty bedding retailer reaching border to border and coast to coast."
