Housewares Charity Foundation Raises Nearly $2 Million for Cancer Research
ROSEMONT, Ill.-At its annual gala on March 17, the Housewares Charity Foundation raised more than $1.7 million for cancer research.
Proceeds from the gala, which was held at the Navy Pier in Chicago during the International Home + Housewares Show, benefited The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, HCF's legacy charity, and The Chicago Initiative on Pancreatic Cancer at the University of Chicago, Medicine & Biological Sciences. The event logged more than 1,000 attendees, who took part in both silent and live auctions for trips, dinners, culinary experiences and sports and entertainment events.
Also during the gala, David Ortiz, vice president and divisional merchandise manager for cooking/dining at Walmart U.S., received the foundation's Lifetime Humanitarian Award. Janis Johnson, president and founder of Gourmet Catalog & Buying Group, was given the Specialty Retailer Humanitarian award. Wolfgang Wusthof, senior partner at Wusthof, was honored as Humanitarian of the Year.
