Arc Investing in Emission Controls at Manufacturing Facility

MILLVILLE, N.J.-Arc International is investing about $40 million on advancements that reduce emissions from its Durand Glass Manufacturing Co. furnaces here, while increasing production capacity.

The company is retrofitting all three of its furnaces with a new filtering system that lowers overall carbon emissions by at least 75 percent, according to an Arc statement. The first natural-gas furnace featuring the new technology is scheduled to go on line next month.

Arc opened the facility here in 1982. It produces and supplies more than 1 million pieces of glassware each day, encompassing crystal-stem wine glasses, beer mugs, decorative custom glasses, plates, cookware and industrial glass used by candlemakers. The plant supplies products for home use and to hotels and restaurants throughout the Americas.
