Surya Debuts Accent Furniture Category, Peter Som Line, More at High Point
HIGH POINT, N.C.-Surya has expanded into a new category this High Point Market with the introduction of its first upholstered accent furniture collection. It also debuted new licensed lines: rugs with fashion designer Peter Som, pillows inspired by the archival designs of the late Australian designer Florence Broadhurst and rugs with interior designer, author and product designer Florence de Dampierre.
The company's new accent furniture is an extension of its pouf collection. With more than 50 pieces, the range of ottomans, benches and foot stools is handmade in India and will be priced at retail from $199 to $1,499. The designs of the line's wool upholstery are inspired by some of Surya's best-selling flatweave patterns and include bold stripes, geometrics, medallions, chevron and houndstooth.
"Our goal is to be the retailer and designer's one-stop shop for home accessories," said Satya Tiwari, president. "We understand that rugs, pillows and other accessories are often the place where the consumer gets to experiment with a new style or color trend that may be too much of a financial commitment in a large furniture piece. Continuing to expand our offerings into small upholstered goods felt like the next logical step in offering a full range of options to our customer."
Surya has also collaborated with fashion designer Peter Som. Key elements of Som's popular apparel collection have been translated into contemporary rug designs. "I'm thrilled to partner with Surya on this new collection, because it has enabled me to bring my signature runway prints and patterns to a new area of home decor," Som said. "Paired with Surya's renowned expertise, the resulting collection is whimsical, timeless, pretty, and above all, fun. These rugs are the perfect exclamation point to any room."
Tiwari added, "We understand the enormous influence that the fashion industry has on the world of home decor. The way that consumers dress and choose to style their homes are integrally linked--with those ties growing stronger each year. Our new partnership with Peter Som is a reflection of this trend."
Surya also debuted a decorative pillow line using the archival designs of the late Australian designer Florence Broadhurst, which have a contemporary and timeless look. Broadhurst was known for her bold wallpaper patterns and her pillows also have colorful, bold patterns.
In addition, a line of historical decorative motif-inspired rugs have debuted in collaboration with Parisian interior designer, author and product designer Florence de Dampierre. "I look to the past to create modern interpretations of classical designs," said De Dampierre. "By using colors in unexpected ways, I inject whimsy and form that is pleasing to the eye and comfortable in the home. I am pleased to be associated with Surya, one of the world's leading manufacturers of high quality rugs at affordable prices."
