SAN BRUNO, Calif.-Walmart has opened two new fulfillment centers specifically to handle its online orders.
The new centers are located in Bethlehem, Pa., and Fort Worth, Texas. Measuring more than 1 million square feet, the former is the largest fulfillment center ever for the retailer. The latter measures 800,000 square feet and began shipping orders last week, according to a statement from Walmart.
The retailer added that these facilities are part of a next-generation fulfillment network. Along with these centers and existing facilities also dedicated to online orders, Walmart can ship online orders from its stores and its more than 130 distribution centers, the company said.
Joel Anderson, president and CEO of walmart.com, said, “With our dedicated online facilities and 4,100 stores within five miles of two-thirds of the U.S. population, we gain a significant advantage by being positioned in the most important location—close to our customers.”
