Target Names Schindele Chief of Canada Operation
Schindele is succeeding Tony Fisher, who has left the company. He reports to Kathee Tesija, chief merchandising and supply-chain officer, whose responsibilities include Target Canada.
Fisher's departure is the second high-level change at the retailer in two weeks. On May 5, Gregg Steinhafel left as the retailer's chairman, president and CEO.
Fisher was named Target Canada's president in 2011. For the fiscal year ending on Feb. 1, Target Canada reported an operating loss of $941 million.
Schindele has been with Target for 15 years. A company statement credited him with playing an integral role in launching new store formats, including PFresh, CityTarget and Target Express.
Target also said the company would name a non-executive chair for Target Canada, who will serve in an advisory role and provide counsel and support to Schindele to ensure that all strategies and tactics align with the Canadian marketplace.
