TORONTO–Calvin McDonald has been named president and CEO of Sears Canada, succeeding Dene Rogers, who is leaving to return to the United States with his family.
An 18-year veteran of the retail industry, McDonald most recently served as executive vice president of the conventional division of Loblaw Cos., the Canadian food and general-merchandise retailer. Rogers was president and CEO since 2006.
In a statement announcing the change, William C. Crowley, Sears’ Canada’s chairman, cited McDonald’s “extensive retail experience, knowledge of online and customer-relationship technologies, an energetic and engaging leadership style, and an appreciation for the opportunity that Sears Canada represents.”
Regarding Rogers’ tenure, Crowley noted that it saw the introduction of the updated Attitude women’s apparel brand, an expanded gift-registry service, growth in e-commerce and the launch of sustainability programs, including those that led Sears Canada to be named as Energy Star Retailer of the Year by Natural Resources Canada for the past four straight years.
