MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis.-Kohl’s will open nine stores today, bringing the retailer’s total store count to 1,155 stores in 49 stores.
The new locations are in Decatur, Ala., Danville, Ill., Ames, Iowa, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Minot, N.D., Sherwood, Ore., Hermitage, Pa., Spring Township, Pa., and Denton, Texas. In announcing the new stores, Kevin Mansell, Kohl’s chairman, president and CEO, added that the company also has plans to remodel 30 stores this year.
The new stores offer updated checkout stations, newly designed shopping carts and strollers, expanded customer-service areas located at the front of the stores, Kohl’s Kiosks, electronic signs, Wi-Fi and upgraded fitting rooms with lounges in the misses and juniors departments. Eight of the new stores were built according to a prototype that received Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification at the Gold level from the U.S. Green Building Council. Features of these stores include more than 20 percent recycled and 20 percent regionally sourced building materials; the use of cool, white Energy Star-rated roofs and water-efficient landscaping and plumbing fixtures, among other attributes.
