MINNEAPOLIS—Target has named Tony Fisher president of Target Canada, which has been formed following up on the mass merchant’s announcement last week of its deal to acquire the leases of up to 220 Zellers stores from Hudson’s Bay Co.
Fisher, previously Target’s vice president of merchandise operations, will build the Target Canada team, establish the headquarters and lead the day-to-day operations of the new unit. He reports to Michael Francis, chief marketing officer, who was named to oversee Target’s entry into the Canadian market. As stated last week, Target will open from 100 to 150 stores across Canada in 2013 and 2014.
Fisher joined Target in 1999, and was promoted to vice president of merchandise operations last year.
