BENTONVILLE, Ark.-Rock icon Elton John will be one of the performers during the festivities leading up to Walmart’s annual shareholders meeting, which is scheduled for June 7.
The meeting, which is geared toward recognizing the retailer’s 2.2 million associates from around the world, will host 14,000 associates representing all 27 countries in which Walmart has locations. While the meeting itself will take place this coming Friday, the company has activities planned throughout this week, including performances by John and Luke Bryan, a country singer.
These events will also spotlight “the unlimited job and career opportunities available at Walmart,” according to a statement from the retailer. Walmart said that last year, it promoted more than 180,000 people to jobs with more responsibility and higher pay in the United States. About 75 percent of its U.S. store and Sam’s Warehouse Clubs’ management began as hourly associates, Walmart said.
