GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn.-Dollar General will open 635 new stores and relocate 550 stores this year.
Rick Dreiling, the dollar-store retailer’s chairman and CEO, said the increased store count “reflects our customers’ increasing satisfaction with our everyday low prices and convenience.” Dreiling added that 2013 will bring a milestone to the company with the opening of its 11,000th store before the end of the year. In addition, next year will mark Dollar General’s 75th anniversary, he said.
A Dollar General statement said the retailer is participating in a number of hiring initiatives, including “Paychecks for Patriots,” which helps veterans find jobs once their military service is ended. The store openings slated for this year should add about 6,000 new jobs overall, bringing Dollar General’s job-creation count to about 30,000 over the past six years.
