NEW YORK–Danish design company Vipp, which has been in the U.S. market for a year, will celebrate its 70 years in business with a charity auction next month. In collaboration with Design Within Reach and benefitting DIFFA: Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS, the auction will offer customized trash bins by a number of notable designers, such as Oscar de la Renta, David Rockwell, Ralph Lauren, Yoko Ono and Calvin Klein.
“We are delighted that Design Within Reach, DIFFA and so many talented artists will help us celebrate our anniversary by joining forces and raising money for an important cause, the fight against AIDS,” said Kasper Egelund, owner of Vipp in New York and the grandson of Holger Nielsen, who founded the company in 1939.
The customized bins will be on display for pre-bidding from Oct. 15 to 28 at the DWR: Tools for Living store at 142 Wooster Street. The gala auction will be hosted by Veronica Webb, Vipp, DWR and DIFFA on Wednesday, Oct. 28, at DWR’s flagship store at 110 Greene Street. Five of the bins will be auctioned online as well.
