LITTLE CANADA, Minn.–Slumberland Furniture, the Midwestern furniture retail chain, has joined forces with local charities and relief organizations to help families affected by recent tornadoes and floods in the Midwest.
In conjunction with the Red Cross, the retailer is supplying beds to families who lost their homes in the tornado that hit Hugo, Minn., on May 25. Slumberland has also allied with Partnership for Safe Families to donate beds to flood victims in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where approximately 9,000 homes were destroyed. In addition, it provided La-Z-Boy recliners to people who were “medically fragile” in Cedar Rapids, said local store manager Chad Klinkenborg.
In Des Moines, Iowa, it is donating beds in cooperation with Lutheran Services to families affected by floods in that city. Slumberland is also joining with local business owners and other organizations to extend this aid to families in nearby Iowa City, where flooding has also occurred.
