CALHOUN, Ga.–The Mohawk Home division of Mohawk Industries has been named the first recipient of the Wal-Mart Supplier Sustainability Award.
Tara Raddohl, manager of sustainability for products at Wal-Mart, told HFN sustainability has become “part of our DNA” at Wal-Mart and so the timing was right to focus recognition on a supplier dedicated to the same ideals and practices. Criteria for the award focused on energy-use management, waste reduction, transportation adjustments, use of recycled or recyclable materials, and use of sustainable initiatives in general business operations.
Specifics that helped earn Mohawk the award were the company’s water-use reduction in manufacturing processes, its corporate and local plastic bottle recycling programs, and its associate awareness campaigns for the Mohawk “Greenworks” citizenship.
