Las Vegas--India's growing reputation as a major international player in home textiles will receive a further boost next spring, as some 50 corporations from that country are expected to participate in the Global Home Textiles trade show here at the Sands Expo and Convention Center from May 6 to 8. The names of specific companies, however, were not released by press time by George Little Management, the exhibition's organizer.
GLM has been promoting the show to several key Indian trade associations, emphasizing the benefits to their members of presenting their products in Las Vegas. They include the Indian Trade Promotion Council, the Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council, the Handloom Export Promotion Council and the Coir Board, a unit of India's ministry of agro and rural industries. Coir is a natural coconut fiber, located between the husk and outer shell. It is reportedly largely waterproof, and resistant to damage by salt water.
Sessions relating to India's economy at the show will focus on business relationships, sourcing and importing. A total of 350 companies are expected to exhibit.
In the concurrent home decor show, to be held at the same location, GLM is expecting 20 Indian firms. --Nathan Weber
