LAS VEGAS–Dale Carlsen, president and chief executive officer of Sleep Train, has been chosen the first chairman of the Mattress Retailer Council; and Barrie Brown, president of Mattress Giant, has been elected the council’s vice chairman.
The council was formed in March by the International Sleep Products Association, after the ISPA Mattress Industry Leadership Summit. The council’s mission is to expand the mattress market; enhance retailers’ customer relations; and facilitate efforts among retailers, manufacturers and component suppliers to improve consumers’ mattress-buying experience. It is also serving as a forum for issues and challenges involving the mattress-retail sector.
The 10 founding members of the council include executives with Art Van Furniture, Macy’s Home, Mattress Discounters, Mattress Firm, Mattress Giant, R.C. Willey, Sit ‘N Sleep, Sleepy’s, Slumberland and Sleep Train.
