NEW YORK-The first day of the New York Spring Tabletop Show revealed several design themes, including a move to rich colors and detailed patterns as accents, a focus on specialty shapes in barware and stemware, and an understanding that elegant, sophisticated packaging is increasingly important in a category where giftware sales are a big part of business.
Riedel launched a feather-light stemware pattern called Veritas that includes a coupe champagne glass, a first for the company … Mugs continue to be a small-ticket big business; there were new offerings from BIA (including an oversized soup mug) and dozens of new designs from Konitz and Maxwell & Williams, among many others … Orrefors is focusing on giftware, lighting and specialty glassware this season. It has also sharpened its price points in those areas … Reed & Barton is expanding its Heritage collection with new optic crystal bowls, two sizes of trays and engraveable pewter frames. The metals company also introduced four flatware patterns in expanded sets in the R&B Everyday line for $100 sale retail.
