TRINITY, N.C.–After a five-month search, Sealy has given the leadership of the company to one of its own—Larry Rogers, a 29-year veteran of the company.
Rogers was formally announced as Sealy’s president and chief executive officer late yesterday. He has served as the company’s interim CEO since the resignation of David McIlquham in early March. The move recognizes Rogers’ long experience with the nation’s number-one mattress manufacturer, after serving in a variety of executive positions, including the presidency of Sealy International, Sealy Canada and Sealy North America, his most recent post before becoming interim CEO.
Until yesterday’s announcement, industry analysts had speculated that Sealy would choose a new leader from outside the company, perhaps even from outside the industry. In a Sealy statement, Paul Norris, the company’s chairman of the board, said, “After careful review, the board determined that Larry possesses the most unique and compelling set of skills and qualities to lead the company. [Rogers] has established solid customer relationships and a deep understanding of our company and the industry.”
Rogers’ appointment also fills the last open leadership job among the industry’s top manufacturers. In the past month, new CEOs have been announced for Tempur-Pedic and Restonic, and since spring 2007, new chiefs have taken charge at Spring Air and Sleep Innovations.
