Bush’s Sherbert to Retire; Garde Named President

JAMESTOWN, N.Y.–Bush Industries announced today that Jim Sherbert has stepped down as CEO and will retire this spring.  Sherbert, who has served as CEO of Bush Industries since August 2005, will continue to serve in a transitional role until his retirement date.

Jim Garde, who has served as CFO and most recently as president of the BBF Division, assumes leadership of Bush Industries.

Kai Promotes Grutbo

TUALATIN, Ore.—Steve Grutbo has been promoted to vice president of sales and marketing for the housewares division of Kai USA Ltd.

Grutbo, who has been with the company since 2009 and most recently served as national sales manager, will assume leadership of the division effective February 8 and will report directly to Hiroshi (Jack) Igarashi, chief of North American operations and managing director of Kai Corporation in Japan.

He succeeds Kurt Zanner, who is returning to the Midwest to pursue personal and family goals, the company said.

MSLO Appoints Smyth to Board

NEW YORK–Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia (MSLO) has named Margaret M. Smyth to its board of directors.

Most recently, Smyth served as vice president and chief financial officer of Hamilton Sundstrand, part of United Technologies Corp. Prior to that, she was United Technologies’ vice president and corporate controller. She also served in financial positions with 3M, Deloitte & Touche and Arthur Andersen.

Bon-Ton Names Hoffman President and CEO

YORK, Pa-The Bon-Ton Stores has appointed former Lord & Taylor chief Brendan L. Hoffman president and CEO, effective Feb.7.

Hoffman, who will also be elected to the board of directors, succeeds president and CEO Bud Bergren, who is a current member of the board and will become chairman. Upon Bergren’s transition to chairman, Tim Grumbacher, currently serving as executive chairman, will remain a director.

NEW YORK–Meyer Corporation has signed a multi-year lease for its Forty One Madison 3,000-plus square-foot showroom and has appointed veteran tabletop executive Helene Branisel director of sales for tabletop, a newly created position.
The move follows Meyer’s recent launch of Paula Deen and Rachael Ray tabletop collections.
