Ethan Allen Using More Eco-Friendly Foam
DANBURY, Conn.-Ethan Allen Interiors said it is now using only CertiPUR-US certified foams across its entire line of mattresses and custom upholstery, which includes sofas, chairs, ottomans and headboards.
According to a statement from the retailer, CertiPUR-US certified foams are low in volatile-organic-compound (VOC) emission materials. They are made without formaldehyde, mercury, lead, heavy metals, polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), ozone depleters or prohibited phthalates, Ethan Allen said.
Farooq Kathwari, the retailer's chairman, president and CEO, said Ethan Allen shoppers will soon see hang tags bearing the CertiPUR-US seal on products throughout the showrooms. On ethanallen.com, the seal will be displayed on product pages. The seal means that all foams used in Ethan Allen custom upholstery and mattresses "were rigorously tested and certified by an independent, accredited laboratory" to meet the CertiPUR-US criteria, the statement said.
"Ethan Allen clients are savvy shoppers who are just as concerned with what's inside their furniture and mattresses as they are with how it looks and feels," Kathwari said.
