  • Costco Q2 Net Gains 29.2 Percent

           Increased sales and a tax benefit in connection with a special cash dividend helped drive Costco’s second-quarter net income up 29.2 percent to $598 million. According to Richard Galanti, the warehouse-club retailer’s chief financial officer, Costco’s bottom line benefited from a $57 million tax benefit in connection with a special cash dividend to the company’s 401-K plan participants, issued in February.   • Revenue—and Losses—Gain at Wayfair

           Wayfair ended its fiscal year on Dec. 31 with impressive gains in net revenue for both the year and the fourth quarter. However, the red ink on its bottom line deepened for both periods as the online retailer continues to plow money into customer acquisition. Net sales for the year climbed 44 percent to $1.3 billion, following a 38.4 percent increase in fourth-quarter sales to $408.6 million. More
