ALEXANDRIA, Va.–Both dollar and unit sales of mattresses grew last year compared with 2006, according to preliminary numbers released by the International Sleep Products Association.
On a dollar basis, sales increased by 4.4 percent in 2007, while unit sales edged up 1.5 percent, according to ISPA’s December Bedding Barometer. The industry managed these increases in spite of poor results in December, in which dollar sales fell 2.9 percent and unit sales plummeted 7.2 percent. Regarding the last month of the year, ISPA also noted that sales were down for all mattress categories except, non-innerspring, in which dollar sales jumped 13.5 percent and unit sales climbed 7.9 percent.
ISPA bases its monthly and annual numbers on information provided by 19 leading mattress producers.
