ALEXANDRIA, Va.–The recognition of a mattress’ relationship to quality of sleep is growing, according to recent research by the Better Sleep Council, released in SleepSavvy magazine.
Nearly all of the consumers who participated in the council’s study agreed with the statement, “A good night’s sleep is essential to quality of life,” and more than nine out of 10 respondents agreed that a good mattress is necessary to one’s health and well being.
The majority of the respondents said they perceive mattresses to be expensive, and nearly three-fourths said mattresses are too expensive.
The survey also found that consumers remain stuck on previous perceptions about when a mattress should be replaced. More than three out of five participants said mattresses should be replaced every 10 years, similar to findings from past research by the Better Sleep Council. Reaction to the council’s message promoting mattress replacement every five to seven years was “mixed,” according to SleepSavvy, with more than two-thirds of respondents aged 18 to 34 more likely to consider replacing their mattresses in that time span, but less than two out of five participants 34 and older more likely to consider such a replacement cycle.
