SACRAMENTO, Calif.—Sleep Train said it raised $500,000 at its recent annual charity golf classic, to go toward helping foster youth aging out of the foster-care system.
The funds doubled the event’s expected donations goal, and brought the five-year total for the event to $1.5 million. The money will go to furthering the education of foster children beyond high school, and to support them in gaining independent living skills. Representatives from Sealy, Simmons (the presenting sponsor), Serta, Tempur-Pedic, Leggett & Platt, Latex International and DSI Delivery participated in the golf tournament, which was themed around the movie “Pirates of the Caribbean.”
The retailer’s Foster Kids Program is also hosting a dollar drive for foster children through Oct. 30, during which donations will be accepted any of Sleep Train’s locations and online at sleeptrain.com.
