Simmons Gains Patent for Transflexion Technology
ATLANTA--Simmons has secured a patent for Transflexion Comfort Technology, which the company describes as a foam "break in" process designed to ensure that a mattress feels the same at home as it does on the retail floor.
A company statement said the technology can help reduce the number of mattress returns to retailers. The Transflexion process preconditions a bed's foam layers to remove "false firmness" from a mattress. This happens in traditional polyurethane foams because the gases stay trapped inside the foam cells until they are gradually released through repeated use of the bed.
As a direct result of the company's success with Transflexion Comfort Technology, Simmons said in its statement, the company will be attaching a 20-year limited warranty to the new 2010 Beautyrest Black collection, which is being introduced at this week's Las Vegas Market. Mark Owen, Simmons' vice president of brand management, said, "We've conducted extensive third party testing of the new Beautyrest Black line and found that the addition of Transflexion technology has significantly enhanced its durability."
