TRINITY, N.C., and WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J.-Sealy has acquired a minority interest in Comfort Revolution, the foam bedding manufacturer founded two years ago by industry veteran Michael Fux.
Fux, the company's CEO, will continue to lead Comfort Revolution. In an interview with HFN, he described the interest Sealy has purchased as "a minority piece but a large piece." The price was not disclosed.
As a result of the deal, Comfort Revolution will manufacture foam mattresses for Sealy, under the mattress giant's brand names Posturepedic, Stearns & Foster and Bassett. The first collections will be unveiled at the upcoming Las Vegas Market, which will take place from July 30-Aug. 3, and will appear at retail in either the third or the fourth quarter.
Down the road, Comfort Revolution will make other basic bedding products under Sealy's brands as well.
On Sealy's part, this move represents "a broader approach" to the specialty mattress sector, according to a company statement. Sealy formed a separate division focusing on specialty mattresses last fall. "Sealy's long-term vision is to be a total sleep-solution provider, which extends beyond our traditional mattress business, and our strategic partnership with Comfort Revolution is a very big step for us in that direction," said Larry Rogers, Sealy's president and CEO.
