Mega Group Debuts Whirlpool Gallery

Buying group Mega Group USA unveiled a Whirlpool Appliance Gallery at the Las Vegas Furniture Market.

This new gallery format gives furniture dealers the power to become a complete home furnishings resource to their customers, said Missy Hodges, Mega Group USA’s appliance manager. “Similar to a gallery concept for furniture, it’s a store within a store. It will bring customers into the stores more often.”

Informal visits by HFN to Home Depot, Lowe’s and Sears show all three retailers are merchandising dishwashers in different ways.
HFN conducted these visits at two locations of each retail chain in northern New Jersey during August. All six stores (with the exception of a Home Depot located in East Hanover, N.J., whose kitchen center was under renovation), featured dishwashers in fixtures with built-in surrounds, which allow the store to show what the dishwashers look like when installed in a kitchen.

FAIRFIELD, Conn.–The General Electric appliances division, manufacturer of one of America’s iconic product lineups for more than 80 years, could be headed for foreign ownership.
The mid-May announcement that the industrial giant is considering “strategic options” for the division has fueled speculation about a possible sale. Among the companies mentioned in press accounts as potential buyers of the division are Haier Group, based in China; LG Electronics, based in South Korea; Sweden-based Electrolux; and Bosch of Germany.

OMAHA, Neb.-Nebraska Furniture Mart overhauled its location here, which entailed major changes to its white goods department.

The 100,000-plus-square-foot store Nebraska Furniture Mart Appliance, Electronics and Computer store, one of three Nebraska Furniture Mart locations, completed a two-year renovation project earlier this month that included modifications in white goods displays, fixtures and the addition of about 100 major appliance SKUs to a total of 800, Jody Rusnak, Nebraska Furniture Mart's appliance director, told HFN.
