Philips’ Bulb-Free Cielo to Debut in Dallas

The Cielo

The Cielo

ELGIN, Ill.–At this week’s Dallas International Lighting Market, Philips will introduce Cielo, a pendant that has the look of a modern light shade but with no visible light source or bulb inside. Instead, Cielo uses 24 2.5 watt Philips Luxeon LEDs, which are embedded between a fabric shade and its acrylic housing.

The company will host an Italian-inspired party for the Cielo on Friday, Jan. 20, in its Dallas showroom, #3101, from 6-8 p.m.

“With the Cielo we further demonstrate the possibilities of LED lighting through an innovative design that is completely counter-intuitive,” said Gonneke Gros, senior marketing director. “You get the same diffused, soft white light, with no light bulb to replace and using just 60 watts versus three 100-watt light bulbs. For the design conscious consumer, the Cielo is a beautiful, environmentally conscious choice for their home.”

The 24-inch-diameter shade is available in three finish choices: black, white and silver.
