NEW YORK–ELK plans to open a 3,500 square foot office and showroom space in Midtown this summer, where its design team will be based.
Located on 32nd Street, near the Empire State Building, the company-owned location is at “the heart of design,” said Brad Smith, CEO, ELK Group International. The designers “will be able to see trends so much faster,” he said. “It’s an advantage for us.” Smith expected the new space to be operational within 90 days.
The purchase last year of New York-based Lazy Susan brought to ELK more than “dollars and cents,” but product design and a product design team that is exceptional, said Smith. Currently, the Lazy Susan team is in a rented space. Some of ELK’s product development team will be relocated to the new New York office once it opens, along with the existing design and graphic team. The location will not only have offices, Smith said, but a showroom that will allow the company to become involved with New York events and tradeshows, such as NY Now. “It will allow us to pull back the curtain, so to speak, and share our design process,” he said.
In addition, the company is about 30 days from finalizing its purchase of Alico Industries, an LED company that will expand ELK’s current line of vanity lighting, as well as bring it into the undercabinet lighting category, Smith said. “It’s a nice addition for us.”
