Whirlpool Begins 100th Anniversary Celebration
BENTON HARBOR, Mich.-Whirlpool is kicking off the year-long celebration of its 100th anniversary today with several events.
The company will conduct the ground-breaking ceremony for its new, one-million-square-foot manufacturing facility to make premium cooking products in Cleveland, Tenn. Also, today is the ground-breaking ceremony for a new campus in Whirlpool's headquarters here. Later today, Whirlpool executives will ring the closing bell at the New York Stock Exchange.
Other events planned throughout the next year include the publication of an official Whirlpool history, the start of an employee volunteerism program and select facility tours for corporate partners and members of the media.
Whirlpool opened for business in 1911 with the launch of the first electric-wringer washing machine developed by Lou Upton, Emory Upton and Lowell Bassford.
