TORONTO–Umbra has named Matt Carr as director of design, a newly created position in which he will oversee a global design department based here. Carr has spent the past seven years with Umbra, becoming one of the company’s creative leads in 2006.
Regarding green design, which became an initiative that the company introduced in January, Carr said, “It is a very exciting time to be a designer. We have the opportunity to dream up functional, beautiful and responsible solutions every day.” He added, “Our team of dynamic designers is very focused on exploring new materials and processes to reduce Umbra’s carbon footprint.”
His recent designs for Umbra’s U+ Collection include the Biblioteca bookshelf, the Mystic clock and the Tea Time clock.
