From Trash To Treasure

Trash never looked so good.
Danish company Vipp, which has manufactured trash bins since 1939, held its first U.S. charity event on Sept. 18, auctioning off the trash bins creatively designed by 38 celebrities and designers. Hosted by Danish model Helena Christensen, the event raised $60,000 for the evening’s charities—Food Bank of New York City and Chernobyl Children’s Project International.
The evening’s highlight was the live auction of U2 singer Bono’s bin, which fetched a record $30,000. Illustrated by Bono on a white background, the bin included unpublished lyrics from U2’s next album as well as a tribute to Nelson Mandela.
Looking to penetrate the U.S. market, Vipp launched its U.S. unit this year and opened a showroom here this summer. — Andrea Lillo
