HOT SPRINGS, Ark.–Smith’s Consumer Products Inc. has renamed its Edgeware brand KitchenIQ, following the recent decision by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to cancel the Edgeware trademark registrations.
EdgeCraft filed three petitions against Smith’s three years ago, which prompted the ruling by the Patent and Trademark Office. The board said the name Edgeware was “confusingly similar” to the name EdgeCraft.
“While we strongly disagree with this decision, and it does not require us to make an immediate name change, we believe it’s best to keep our energy focused on providing our customers with the innovation, quality and value they have come to expect from Smith’s,” said CEO Dan Glidden.
“The KitchenIQ brand highlights our long-standing reputation for innovation and quality and clearly reflects our commitment to producing superior products that are smart for the kitchen,” he added. “KitchenIQ confirms to consumers that they are making a smart decision in buying our products and we look forward to building on our 127-year heritage under this vibrant new brand name.”
