Sears, CPSC Recall Kenmore Coffeemakers

WASHINGTON–The U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission and Sears have issued a recall of Kenmore and Kenmore Elite coffeemakers.
The recall affects about 145,000 units sold from August 2007 to April 2008 at Sears, Sears Hardware, The Great Indoors and Kmart stores throughout the nation, priced between $30 and $100. According to a CPSC statement, the wiring in these coffeemakers could overheat, posing burn and fire hazards. Sears has received 20 reports of these coffeemakers overheating, including 12 fires that have caused damage to countertops, cabinets and kitchen floors. No injuries have been reported.
The CPSC statement also said the recall involves 12-cup Kenmore coffeemakers sold in black, white and red; 12-cup Kenmore Elite coffeemakers with a thermal carafe; and 14-cup Kenmore Elite coffeemakers.
