CINCINNATI–Procter & Gamble has named Marc S. Pritchard to succeed James R. Stengel as global marketing officer.
Stengel is retiring after a 25-year career at P&G, the parent company of the Gillette and Braun men’s-care brands, on Aug. 1. He became global marketing officer in 2001 after serving in a number of executive positions involving brand management, advertising and marketing, and reported to P&G’s chief operating officer, Robert A. McDonald. A.G. Lafley, P&G chairman and chief executive officer, credited Stengel with reinvigorating the company’s marketing function and its capability in building brands on an international basis.
In his new role, Pritchard will also report to McDonald. He joined P&G in 1982 and served in a number of positions relating to plant management, financial analysis and product management. Most recently, he served as president of strategy, productivity and growth. Lafley described Pritchard as “a committed brand builder,” and noted that Pritchard worked with Stengel for the past two years to strengthen P&G’s brand-building efforts.
