Lodge Accepts, Exceeds Energy Star Challenge
SOUTH PITTSBURG, Tenn.-After taking on the U.S. Environmental Agency's (EPA) Energy Star Challenge to lower energy consumption in April 2010, Lodge Manufacturing has already exceeded its goals for this year.
"Not only has Lodge accepted the Energy Star Challenge, we met our five-year goal in one year," said Keith Nunley, engineering manager, Lodge. "By working with all of the departments in our foundry, we are able to monitor energy usage more efficiently and reduce the amount of energy consumed."
The company's primary source of energy reduction is through its two melters on the melting deck that reduce heat when being used while still keeping the temperature at a proper level. It installed motion sensors in hallways, break rooms and other areas so lights go off and switch back on when people enter those rooms. The company also uses energy-efficient bulbs.
"We continue to improve every facet of monitoring and consumption of energy, and we will meet our goals for 2011," said Nunley. Lodge said it's the only manufacturer in the state of Tennessee to meet its goal and be recognized by the EPA for its efforts.
