Kai USA Debuts My First Knife
My First Knife
TUALATIN, Ore.-Kai USA has unveiled a knife designed to teach school-age children proper knife skills.
The 4.5-inch polypropylene knife comes with a booklet featuring diagrams, illustrations, "how to" steps and tips on how to teach children nine and older basic knife skills.
"Kids love to help in the kitchen and want to do more than just set the table. My First Knife is designed to help adults teach children safe knife skills, opening the door for learning, sharing and healthy eating," said Kurt Zanner, director of the housewares division for Kai USA. "We believe that kids will spend more time in the kitchen with their parents learning about food, how it is prepared and what they should be eating when they have the opportunity to really help and learn a serious skill."
The instruction booklet offers kitchen knife safety tips beginning with how to organize and prepare the cutting surface and how to show a child how to grip a knife using the "claw" grip. The textured orange knife handle is easy to grip and shaped so kids will have success whether they are left- or right-handed, while the blade has an easier-to-manage serrated edge.
My First Knife has a suggested retail price of $40 and is available at Williams Sonoma. Kai USA and Williams Sonoma will be donating 25 percent of proceeds to (SOS) Share our Strength.
