BOCA RATON, Fla.–Jarden Consumer Solutions has decided not to exhibit at this year’s International Home & Housewares Show.
According to a company statement, the housewares manufacturer has made this move “as part of a company-wide effort to reduce costs, protect and defend shareholder value, and to minimize the recession’s impact on our 2009 business.” Jarden added that it believes this “is the right decision considering the extremely tough economic environment. As the economy stabilizes, (the company) plans to again participate in future shows.”
Speaking to HFN this morning, Phil Brandl, president of the International Housewares Association, the show’s sponsor, said, “We’re sorry to learn of this, but our attention shifts to ensuring that the event is vibrant and meaningful to the industry. Buyer registration continues to look good. We look forward to welcoming Jarden back in 2010.”
In a separate statement, Gerald Rubin, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Helen of Troy, said the personal-care products manufacturer would be taking the space that Jarden would have occupied in the Lakeside section of McCormick Place, where the housewares show is to be held in March.
