RYE, N.Y.–Jarden Corp.’s first-quarter sales skyrocketed by about 47 percent to $1.2 billion, according to a brief preliminary statement from the company.
In the statement, described as an “update,” Martin Franklin, chairman and chief executive officer, said Jarden’s performance reflected “the strength of our leading brands and the defensible nature of our core categories.” Franklin added that the company’s Outdoor Solutions unit showed organic growth in the quarter, while its other business segments registered year-over-year sales declines.
Franklin said Jarden would release its full first-quarter results next month, and that “we remain comfortable that we will meet or exceed the analysts’ consensus estimates (of growth in earnings per share) for first quarter 2008.”
