Imusa Honored by Autism Organization; Campaign Raises $226,000

MIAMI–Imusa has been honored with the Outstanding Corporate Partner award from Autism Speaks of Miami Dade, for which the housewares company, along with Sedano’s Supermarkets, has been raising money for the four past years. Together, the two companies have raised $226,000; during the 2013 campaign they raised $76,000, an increase of 20 percent from 2012 efforts.

Imusa’s support of Autism Speaks includes developing a nonstick sauté pan that features the design of the Autism Speaks puzzle piece logo, which is used as a fundraising vehicle for and by Autism Speaks. It is sold on the Autism Speaks’s website as an 8- and 11-inch set for $20, and a percentage from the sale of each pan is donated to the organization.

“The CDC’s estimate of autism prevalence– one in 88 children in the United States – demands that autism be recognized as a public health emergency. These statistics are staggering and profound,” said Manny Gaunaurd, president of Imusa. “Behind these numbers are real families, real individuals struggling every day. They are why Imusa continues to work with Autism Speaks as our philanthropy of choice.”

Imusa also underwrote a qualitative research for Hispanic families affected by autism, created gluten-free recipe booklets, supported the $1 Puzzle Piece fundraising program with Sedano’s Supermarkets and led a team at Miami’s 2013 Walk Now for Autism Speaks fundraising event for Autism Speaks.
