ESPRESSO MAKER: SINGLE SERVE: NESPRESSO
The streets of major cities around the world are the inspiration behind the CitiZ range of single-serve espresso makers—the company’s first launch of a range of machines. This group includes the Nespresso CitiZ, a single-head automatic espresso maker and the Nespresso CitiZ & Milk, which includes a built-in fresh-milk frother. Designed in two styles, retro and high-tech, the CitiZ line was developed with an eye toward kitchen decor as well as functionality. The retro machines are available in ’60s white and limousine black, while the high-tech machines come in fire-engine red and steel gray. Each of the designs is a slim format, allowing the machines to fit easily into smaller urban spaces. nespresso.com

GADGETS: HAROLD IMPORT COMPANY
Harold Import Company showed what it called the World’s Greatest Potato Masher at the Housewares Show. The spring action combined with the ricing blades makes this product very efficient, the company said, and helps keep potatoes clump free and airy. The company will offer the stainless steel version first, though it looks to add color to the handles as well. haroldimport.com

CUTLERY: ERGO CHEF
Food Network star and restaurateur Guy Fieri is not known for his subtlety and neither are his new knives from Ergo Chef. Fieri partnered up with the company to create a line that complemented his “hot rod” personality, and the Guy Fieri Knuckle Sandwich Series knives are the result. Ergonomically curved for comfort and designed for cool, the knives combine performance with style. Initially offered as an eight-inch chef knife, here, and a 5.5-inch utility “Dragon Dagger,” the knives are made of German stainless steel and have hollow ground ovals for less stick and smoother cuts. ergochef.com

COOKWARE/STAINLESS STEEL: SWISS DIAMOND
This covered sauté pan is not only Swiss Diamond’s newest, but the first of a cookware series that adds stainless-steel handles to its diamond-reinforced non-stick line. Currently the line’s largest item with a 5.8-quart capacity and measuring 12.5 inches in diameter, model #6732 will ably help prepare meals for families or big gatherings. For select distribution, the pan features both an ergonomic stainless steel handle and pressure cast helping handle for easy control. swissdiamond.com

KITCHENWARE: CHEF’S PLANET
The days of washing fruits and vegetables in a colander first and then putting them into a measuring cup are over, as Chef’s Planet’s new measuring colander combines the two tasks. Ideal for those non-liquid ingredients—beans, strawberries, cabbage, and more—the measuring colander has a three-cup capacity and its draining holes line up with the measuring lines. Available in white, red and blue, the measuring colander also has a built-in tuna can drainer and flat sides for easy scooping. chefsplanet.com
