Eastman Chemical Opens Plant for Eastman Tritan

KINGSPORT, Tenn.–Eastman Chemical Company has opened its new plant exclusively dedicated to producing its Eastman Tritan copolyester, due to increasing market demand for the material, the company said. Launched in 2007 as an alternative to polycarbonate plastic, which uses Bisphenol A (BPA), the Tritan business has quadrupled in the past months, the company added. Initially targeting three industries—reusable sports water bottles, housewares and small appliances—the BPA-free material has since expanded to seven markets, including medical, infant care, bulk water and signs.
