NEW YORK–Umbra has turned to corn and recycled and sustainable materials for its line of garbage cans and other categories in an effort to cut down its effect on the environment, and has plans to incorporate green friendly practices in its packaging.
Working to become more fiscally, socially and environmentally responsible, the company said it will showcase its new line at the upcoming New York International Gift Fair in the Accent in Design section.
Now the majority of Umbra’s cans are made of degradable plastic. Umbra’s entire Garbini line has also been revamped into corn plastic, a compostable and renewable resource.
Able to hold notes with or without pins, the new Pulp bulletin board is made from stacked reprocessed paper with a recyclable paper board frame. In the frame category, Etz, Cheeto and Rama are three new items made of plantation grown wood, which is cultivated from sustainable crops to replace the use of forest wood.
In packaging, Umbra plans to eliminate PVC and replace Styrofoam with corrugate inserts.
