HOUSTON–Cookware company Chantal celebrates its 40th year in business this month, founded in 1971 by German-born engineer Heida Thurlow, who relocated to the U.S. in 1970.
Over her four decades in business, Thurlow has received 26 design and utility patents from the U.S. and Germany for teakettle and cookware design and innovation. Over the years, Chantal’s product line has added color to the kitchen, as well as such features as tempered glass lids and stay-cool handles to its cookware. In addition, Chantal has had successful partnerships with the Lance Armstrong Foundation, Eva Zeisel and, more recently, chefs Sara Moulton and Tre Wilcox, who have helped keep Chantal connected to the cooking community. Thurlow also battled and overcame cancer while running Chantal. The company has even been the subject of a case study for The Harvard Business School and to help teach students how to make decisions under strenuous circumstances.
“Throughout my career I have stood up to hardship with determination and an iron will,” said Thurlow. “With the help of my family and the Chantal team I have been able to persevere and I am so proud to have made it this far.”
In celebration of its 40th anniversary, Chantal will introduce a new enamel teakettle, available in January for $40. The Anniversary Teakettle will debut in four beautiful colors: Chili Red, Orange, Sea Blue and Yellow.
